Mexicanas

Mexican Girls
MEXICANAS

I have made a couple of observations that you may find interesting to read:

I am left here after the cancellation of my night class to admire in the after glow of the sunset, the peculiar and attractive beauty of young Mexican women. The experience is similar to taking a stroll through the U of A and being stunned by the constant stream of nubile young things except here there are no blond, bow-headed, sports car driving rich young daddy´s girls, almost all here are dark skinned with dark eyes of mystery, dark hair and dressed to kill with tight jeans, tight tops, red lipstick and high heels. These women are knockouts (the literal translation of  ¨noqueadas¨ does not hold, although ¨jonrón¨ is a homerun) ) .

In addition to the fiesta of beautiful, exotic faces and smiles, with curly, wispy hair cascading down the sides of cheeks and down under the tightly pulled back pony tails set high on the head, set off by eyes a combination of Arabia, Spain and American Indian, punctuated by a breathtaking portal of ruby red lips, the breasts shake and sway to and fro gloriously among an over-all image of alluring, exotic beauty.

Arabs conquered the southern portions of the Iberian Peninsula for 7 centuries, culminating in their expulsion in 1492. Much Arab blood mingled with that of the Spaniards and then those people came to the new world and eventually, over nearly five centuries the various blood transformed and transfigured the people, to create a nation of Mexicans, almost entirely mixed with the local Indian populations.  This is what is called ¨La Raza¨, the Race. There are really no meztisos now, only Mexicans. What you end up with is some absolutely noqueada gals, who unlike their Arabian ancestors, are not covering everything up. The Mexicanas are proudly displaying their beauty, swaying elegantly like so many dark Mona Lisas through the tepid Hermosillo evening air.

If you will allow me to further describe the hair.... the hair is almost always pulled tightly back in  pony tail which falls down and down with a shimmer , hair of black or deep ruby red color. The style accents the face, emphasizing high cheeks and eyes like deep pools shining and dark , with unknown femininity.  The sharply pulled back hair reveals the soft wispy hair of the sideburns and neck, which like so many gossamer threads are proudly displayed by all the women and not cut, hidden or shaved. I love that look.

From my brief inquiries and time spent at a practically all-night fiesta where I was able to ask about the more subtle aspects of Mexican courting and how yours truly might go about getting a novia, (girlfriend), I have discovered a number of things: People in general are attracted to those things new and different, to things exotic and foreign. My girls at the fiesta told me generally that they felt the same way towards men of northern European extraction, that they had something worth looking into. This is a very good sign!!!!.

Dating here is more of a group experience, centered in the families and the notion of getting a girl alone on the first through 15th date is highly suspect because as we all know, men in spite of their capacity for higher human experience, are constantly battling fleshy desire and in many cases, all the formalities are simply a precursor to the intended end result of, well, you know what I´m saying mon. Men want MORE. Siempre más! So in most cases a date will consist of going with a group of people, getting to know the family, developing some sense of who is this who wants to be rooting around with their daughter. (As I am writing this now I am surrounded on all sides by Mexicanas!)

I am really enamored of the looks of these women but beyond looks, I have yet to develop any sense of general world view and how I may differentiate between those who may look great now but end up as torture later. One significant difference is of the catholic/ protestant variety. Another is that north Americans of my generation tend to be extremely liberal and open-minded, very individual, and this is in many cases in stark contrast to the generally traditional Mexican world view wherein individually oriented behavior is seen in a negative light.

Another interesting aspect is that below the surface of the formality and tradition, there are strong undercurrents of promiscuity. One tradition is of the "casa chica", literally, little house, where a man keeps his second, third, fourth or however many wives and girlfriends he is able to manage and finagle. My friend Roberto told me he has 40 brothers and sisters because his father has had children with upwards of 20 different women. Roberto's father in law produced some 60 offspring by some 40 women. Go figure, on one hand you have this fear inspired Catholic action and on the other an entire disregard for the consequences of sinning. Maybe all that is important is to go to church on Sunday and confess and then all those peccadillos can be wiped away?

Otherwise the driving is interesting, you have to be like Luke Skywalker to survive the streets. I have been eating everything and doing OK. No worms in the brain or paralytic, death inducing shell fish toxins.

Well, this sitting in the salon de computadoras has grown bothersome. I’m outa here.
